Reception
- Children new to Reception children spend time in the Reception classroom ahead of starting in September. This provides an informal opportunity to meet staff and familiarise themselves with the learning environment.
- Throughout the year St Hedda’s works closely with Little Teapots nursery to ensure the best start for children choosing St Hedda’s
- Children new to Reception and their parents/guardians are invited to a meeting to meet staff before their child starts with us. They will receive important information about the school at this meeting
- Children and their families are invited to try school dinners.
- Every two weeks parents/guardians will be invited to ‘Stay and Play’
- Parents will be invited to attend a formal parent consultation meeting in the first half term.
Year 2
- All Y2 children take part in a transition days before the end of summer term to meet their new teacher and familiarise themselves with their new learning environment.
- Parents will be invited to attend an informal book sharing ‘Book and Breakfast’ in Class 2 with their child and a formal parent consultation meeting in the Spring term.
Year 5 only:
- Where parents are choosing an NPCAT secondary school, NPCAT is keen to work with parents and guardians of our current Year 5 pupils to ensure that every child who would like a place in one of our rapidly improving secondary schools has the best possible chance of getting one.
- The NPCAT Step 7 Pathway will run prior to and alongside that application process to ensure that we can support all our primary school pupils in securing a secondary school place that best meets their needs.
Year 6 only:
- Children and their families are given the opportunity to attend Open Evening events ahead of submitting secondary school preferences to North Yorkshire Local Authority.
- Children visit their new schools in July. Transition days usually last between 2-5 days.
- Teachers from the feeder secondary schools visit the children during the summer term.
- Teachers share information with the feeder schools about the children.
- The children receive lots of support with social and emotional resilience during this important time in their life.
